How can I split a shape into two colors?

How tin I split a shape into 2 colors?

(OP)

I am new to indesign and am trying to do something that seems very uncomplicated....all I want to do is make a foursquare (which I know how to exercise) and so split it diagonally downward the middle and make 1 triangle part of the foursquare a different color than the other i. I have tried using the eye dropper tool as that would make sense, similar to the MS paintbucket that allows you to fill in closed areas, but it volition non piece of work. any thoughts??

Thanks! :)

RE: How tin I split up a shape into two colors?

Here's what I'd do.

Draw a guide, drag the ruler from the side on to the page. around the middle

Drag another Guide from the height ruler onto the page. around the centre.

Get the Rectangle Tool. With the cursor where the guides see, agree down the ALT and shift fundamental when you lot draw it.

Brand Guides around the square.

Delete the Square you just drew.

With the Pen Tool, click on each part of the Guides where they meet to make the rectangle.

This is a lot easier in illustrator.

Yous can besides draw a polygon. ON the rectangle tool, concord down the mouse when y'all printing it, you volition see a polygon shape. Choose that.

You tin can make a triangle by clicking in one case on your certificate. Cull your polygon width and summit.

Number of sides 3

Star inset 0.

If you do the maths right you tin make an equilateral triangle, but don't hold your jiff.

That helps me to get the shape, simply doesn't really help me with my color trouble. When I create the shape, I tin can't re-create and paste information technology like I tin a rectangle. I need an isoceles triangle...is there no fashion to apply the color to certain parts of a shape if there is a conspicuously divers line separating the parts?

RE: How tin I split a shape into ii colors?

As an example, nosotros can use a foursquare that you desire to divide into two triangular shapes with the dividing line running from top right to bottom left.

Draw a square and fill with whatsoever color (makes things easier to come across) but don't add any stroke.  Clone the foursquare.  On a mac that would be washed by using the master selection tool (blackness pointer) while holding downwardly the Selection key and draggin a little.  On PC try the second key to the left of the space bar or check ID Help for "clone".

Select the new foursquare, fill with a different colour (for learning purposes and to continue it different from first square) and go to tools window and click-concord on the Pen tool.  Select Delete Ballast Bespeak Tool form the flyout.  Click in the upper left corner of the second square.  That foursquare will turn into a triangle.

Open the Marshal window.  Select both the square and rectangle and align tops and right sides via the Marshal window.  If you lot wnat you lot can choose to group these.

One thing to call back - when you clone, the clone becomes the forward object and then the triangle will land on superlative of the foursquare - giving the advent of ii triangles.  If you somehow reverse them, the triangle will go under the square leaving but the foursquare visible.  In that instance you would select the square and go to Object menu/Arragne and click ship backword or send to back.

Using OSX 10.3.9 on a G4

Cheers! That makes it so much easier and at present I can sleep at night.

RE: How can I split a shape into two colors?

Well I'm only making the bones shape. You can't select parts of it, considering you can't split the box in ii, so to speak, as you'd need two separate shapes.

I think what you lot're looking to exercise is an illustrator feature, where y'all divide the box into shapes, in this a diagonal line over the foursquare, select both objects, using PATHFINDER to divide the shape.

I don't know what you're thinking with the Eyedropper tool? The eyedropper with the showtime click samples one objects backdrop and and so the second click on some other like object pastes that objects style, whether information technology exist a box or text or whatever object you demand.

With the style I've described, you just describe another object to mirror it and colour them any colour you want, removing the diagnol strokes of course with the selection tool. And the other proffer there is a good idea too.

But I like the other idea. Just I wouldn't motility them. As they wouldn't be in line with each other. You tin exercise a stride and echo, and don't put in a altitude and copy once, the go on with the signal removals.

Only interesting point, you can't do what you lot want to exercise easily.
